On 26th February 2016 Herpetofauna Albanian Society opened the very first Sea Turtle Research and First Aid Center in Albania. Even it was a heavy rainy day the lovers of the sea turtles and our work, representatives of the high level from the Ministry of the Environment; Ministry of the European Integration; Ministry of the Education; The National Agency of Protected Areas; Professors of Conservation Biology from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Tirana; Researchers of the Center of Flora and Fauna, FNS, UT; Lac Municipality; The Administration of Lezha Region Protected Areas; Veterinarians; Fishermen; School Children; Media and other lovers of Sea Turtles in Albania participated the inauguration event organized in Patok by HAS.

We are delighted that Durrës, historically also known as Durazzo and Dyrrachiumthis city - joined our network. This City is the second largest municipality of Albania, placed in the central of the albanian coast, about 33 km west of the capital Tirana. It is one of the most ancient and economically significant cities of Albania. Durrës is placed at one of the narrowe points of the Adriatic Sea, opposite the Italian ports of Bari (300 km or 186 mi away) and Brindisi (200 km away). Durrës is home to Albania's main port, the Port of Durrës, and to the newest public university, the Aleksandër Moisiu University. Since 2015 the local government reformed the municipalityincluding the former municipalities of Durrës, Ishëm, Katund i Ri, Manëz,Rrashbull and Sukth by the merger of, that became municipal units. The headquarter of the municipality is the city Durrës. The metropolitan area has a population of 265,330.  Moreover, it is the starting point of Pan-European Corridor VIII  and serves as the main railway station of the Albanian Railways.
