At the beginning of February 2014, Mayor Giovanni Gaspari of San Benedetto del Tronto signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Venice, to join the  NETCET City Network. San Benedetto is a city and comunein the province of Ascoli Piceno, Marche, Italy. Its population is 50,000 making it the second most populous city in the province. It lies on the coast of the Adriatic Seaand is an active fishing port and one of the main seaside resorts on the central Adriatic coast. The whole network is happy to welcome such a well known and much-visited tourist resort, with many activities linked to the protection of sea turtles:

1. it is member of the regional network for the conservation of sea turtles (Marche Region)
2. it hosts an emergency centre for sea turtles within the local office of the University of Camerino (UNICAM)
3. scientific research activities taking place in the University of Camerino
4. environment awareness and education actions from the Environment Education Centre “Torre sul Porto”: organisation of release events, lectures in classes and in the filed, etc.
