Deputy Mayor Ivica Vlakić hosted Matija Franković, Ph.D., Director of the State Institute for Nature Protection, and his associates Ana Štrbenac and Jasna Jeremić, regarding joining the City of Zadar to the City Adriatic Network for conservation of dolphins, whales and sea turtles in the framework of the EU project NETCET. The NETCET project and activities related to the establishment of the City network were presented at the meeting and all the participants agreed to further the cooperation and involvement of City of Zadar in the project activities.
Within the NETCET project it’s indeed foreseen to establish an Adriatic City Network; the aim is to raise the awareness of the c ities on their role for the conservation of the sea turtles and cetaceans. The Adriatic Cities, which intend to participate into this Network, will have to commit themselves to make clear for the general public the threats for these endangered species and proceed to reduce directly t he risks for this marine animals (for example promoting the speed reduction of the boats in the area with cetaceans and sea turtles). To create a more concrete collaboration, the member s of the NETCET City Networks will be also invited to sign an office ial commitment and in conjunction with the Final Conference of the NETCET Project (Venice, July 2015) they will take part in a proper Workshop to share their experiences and the future projects
