First wintering loggerhead turtle was tagged with satellite transmitter by yesterday aboard trawling boat „Calypso“ from Lošinj. It was accidentally caught some 4 NM west of Dugi otok. We are looking forward to receiving its „call“.
The same trawling boat in 2006 caught the first loggerhead turtle that we tagged with satellite transmitter. Loggerhead turtle named „Calypso“ was released on 7. September 2006 (on the photo here). It transmitted its locations during nine months (map). Unfortunately, on 20. May 2007 Calypso was found dead near Venice in harbour of Boca di porto di Malamocco.
Short announcement of the activities was presented in More on Croatian TV
